We are Ammaiyagaram Women Farmer Producer Company Limited, located at number 79 in Thirumalai Nagar. This is in the Ammaiyagaram post area, near Chinnasalem in the Kallakurichi district. We are basically a group of local women who make our living from the soil. Life here moves based on the seasons and the weather. Our office is a humble little place where we meet to talk about the harvests and how to handle the selling part of the job. There are days when it is very quiet, and then other days when the room is full of women talking about market rates or seed types. We don't have any fancy mission statements or anything like that. We just want to make sure our hard work in the sun results in enough money to keep our homes going. Most of us saw our parents struggle with the markets, so we started this to have a bit more control over our own lives. It is a learning process for us every single day, especially with all the paperwork that comes with a company. We stick together and help out when one of us has a bad crop. It is just us, working with what we have in the local ground. We aren't polished people, and our hands are usually dirty, but we are proud of what we are building here in Ammaiyagaram.
