We’ve been here at 127, Vice Chairman Thottam for a good while now. It’s right in the Amman Nagar area of Saravanampatti. If you know this part of town, you know it’s busy. Most days at Aadhira Machine tool Pvt. Ltd start early, around eight, when we get the shutters up. The floor gets noisy pretty fast once the machines start humping. It is not a quiet office job, that is for sure. We deal with machine tools day in and day out. Sometimes the power cuts are a bit of a headache, but we manage somehow. The staff usually gets tea from the stall around the corner twice a day. We have quite a few people working here now. It is a lot of metal and grease. Our address is a bit tucked away in the thottam, so new delivery drivers sometimes get lost and call us from the main road. We just tell them to keep coming straight past the landmark. It’s a practical place. We don’t have fancy carpets or anything like that. Just concrete floors and the tools we use. My desk is usually covered in papers and some metal shavings that I forgot to brush off. It’s just how it goes when you’re actually making things and moving parts around. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a bit over the years, more buildings going up. But we are still here doing the same work we’ve always done.
