Maharaj Tiles Pvt. Ltd. is based over at plots F-75 and 76 in the RIICO industrial area. Having two plots gives us a bit more room to move the trucks around, which is helpful. We deal mostly in tiles, so there are lots of boxes stacked up under the tin roofs. It’s a different kind of work than the marble yards nearby because everything is already cut and packed. We spend our mornings checking the arrivals and making sure nothing got broken on the way here. The air is thick with the smell of diesel from the trucks. We don't have a fancy showroom. Most people just come into the warehouse area and look at the samples we have leaned against the wall. It’s a practical way to do things. The staff here is just a few guys from the local village who have been with us for a while. We know our way around the different sizes and finishes. Sometimes the heat in the warehouse gets to be too much, so we take breaks in the small office where the fan is. It isn't a glamorous business, just selling tiles to people building their homes or shops. We try to keep the stacks organized so it’s easy to find what someone is looking for. It's a lot of manual labor, carrying boxes and loading them onto tempos. We just keep our heads down.
