We are based in Villivakkom, and it’s a busy little spot. Our office is mostly just desks covered in papers and calendars with lots of dates circled in red. The phone rings a lot with people asking about bus timings or train tickets to the south. We have some faded posters of places like Ooty and Kodaikanal on the walls to give people an idea of where they could go. It’s not a large office, just enough space for three or four people to sit and talk. We don't have those fancy computerized booking systems that the big agencies use; we still do a lot of things by calling up the operators directly. Sometimes the ceiling fan makes a clicking sound that drives us crazy, but we haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. Customers come in mostly from the local neighborhood. They know us by name and we know where they usually like to travel. It’s a lot of talking and explaining routes. We keep a stack of maps in the drawer, even though everyone uses their phones now. Sometimes we have to stay late to confirm a booking for a group. It’s a bit chaotic during the holiday season but we managed to keep things moving. We just like helping people get where they need to be without too much fuss. It is a simple life here in Villivakkom and we like it.
