Radha Detergents

Our place is in Dhandeeshwaram, Velachery. It’s called Radha Detergents. If you walk by our doors, you can usually smell the soap and the cleaning chemicals from the street. It’s a strong scent but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We spend the whole day mixing batches and packing things into bags or bottles. It’s a lot of manual labor. We don't have those big automated machines like the huge brands do. A lot of it is done by hand or with small mixers. Velachery has grown so much lately with all the malls and big buildings, but our little corner remains pretty much the same. We have stacks of sacks filled with raw materials in the corner and finished products waiting to be picked up by the local shops. Sometimes the floors get a bit slippery from the soap, so we have to be careful when we move around. We sell to the small grocers nearby and some people who just walk in off the street to buy for their own houses. It’s a messy business but people always need to wash their clothes, so we stay busy. We don't really have a big office or a receptionist. If you come by, you’ll just see us in our work clothes covered in white powder. We like the work because it is practical. It's just a local business trying to make a decent product that people can use at home.
