Masha Books

Masha Books is located at No. 15 Balakrishnan St in Vyasarpadi. We have stacks of books everywhere you look, even on the floor sometimes. It started out as a small collection and just grew into this shop over the many years we have been here. We spend a lot of time sorting through titles and making sure they are in the right place on the wooden shelves. It is a quiet place inside, which is nice because Vyasarpadi can be quite loud with the traffic outside. We have all sorts of things, from old schoolbooks to stories people read for fun on the weekend. We aren't a big chain store with bright lights and fancy glass displays. Our shelves are made of wood and they are starting to sag a bit under the weight of all the paper we have stored. People come in looking for something specific, or sometimes they just want to browse around for an hour. We try to keep things organized, but sometimes a book gets misplaced and we have to go hunting for it behind other stacks. It is mostly just us here, keeping the dust off the covers as best as we can. We do some local publishing too, which involves a lot of proofreading and checking for errors on a small screen. It is a slow kind of work, but we enjoy being around books and the smell of old paper all day. The shop feels a bit cramped because we keep adding more stock, but that is part of the charm.
