Santha Engineering (Scan Air)

Santha Engineering, or Scan Air as a lot of people call it, is located at No. 8, Rathinam Garden. It’s right on 1st Street Hospital Road in the Extension of West Saidapet. Being in Chennai, we deal with a lot of heat and humidity, so the cooling systems we work on are always in high demand. The shop is in a busy little pocket of the city. There’s a lot of foot traffic from the nearby hospital area, so it’s never really quiet. We spend most of our time looking at air conditioning units or refrigeration setups that have struggled under the sun. The workspace isn't very large, so we have to be careful where we put the tools. Most of the guys here have been working with their hands for years and can tell what's wrong with a motor just by the sound it makes. We don't use fancy computers for everything; a lot of it is just old-fashioned troubleshooting and repair. The office part is just a small corner with a fan and some old ledgers. We have our regulars who come in from the neighborhood, and we try to get their stuff fixed quickly so they aren't stuck in the heat. It’s a straightforward business. We show up, we look at the machine, and we try to get it running again without making a big fuss about it, which is how we have always worked here.
