R.K. Traders

Being on the first floor here at 36 Perumal Mudali Street has its ups and downs. The biggest down is definitely carrying everything up those stairs, especially when the weather is hot and the humidity is high. But once you’re up here, it’s a decent enough space for R.K. Traders to operate. The street downstairs is always crowded with people and carts, so it’s actually a bit quieter being one level up. We’ve been in this spot for quite a while now. The office is small and filled with samples and old files that we really should organize better one of these days. We deal with various goods, and the inventory changes depending on the month and what people are asking for. My desk is right by the window, so I can see what’s happening on the street below while I’m on the phone with customers. It’s a very old part of town, so the walls are thick and the ceilings are quite high. We don't have any fancy air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that hum all day long. Most of our day is spent talking to suppliers or checking the quality of what just came in from the docks. We don't use any big marketing tricks; we just tell people what we have and what the price is. It’s a simple way to do business. By the time evening rolls around, the street gets even more packed, so we head home.
