Oriental Enterprise

Subba Reddy Street is always crowded, especially in the mornings when everyone is rushing to work. Our place at 16/24 is right in the thick of it. West Mambalam has that old feel to it, you know? The streets are narrow and you have to be careful not to get hit by a cycle or a scooter when you step out the door. We’ve been running Oriental Enterprise from this spot for quite some time. It’s not a large space, but we make it work by stacking things up to the ceiling. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons, so we usually have the fan going full blast. Most of our customers are folks from the neighborhood who have been coming to us for years. They know my father and they knew his father before him. We don't spend much on advertising because word of mouth does the job for us. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit outside on the steps until it comes back. It's just part of the routine here in Mambalam. I like the bustle of the street, even if it gets noisy with the temple bells and the vendors shouting. We just focus on getting the orders ready and making sure nobody leaves unhappy. It's a simple life and we aren't looking to change much about how we do things. We keep the doors open and just take the work as it comes in daily.
