Merit International

The office is at No : 119/1 on Dr. Besant Road in Royapettah. It’s an old part of Chennai with lots of narrow streets and old buildings. We have been working out of this space for a while now. Merit International is mostly about coordinating things and making sure papers are in order. My desk is a complete mess with files and sticky notes everywhere. We have a few old fans that creak while they spin but they keep us cool enough. The street outside is always full of motorcycles and people walking to the local shops. Sometimes the noise from the tea stall downstairs gets a bit loud but the tea is good so we don't complain. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to people in different cities. It’s not a fancy corporate office with glass walls or anything like that. We have wooden cupboards and old chairs that have been here since we opened. My assistant, Rajesh, knows where every single file is even when I can't find them. We usually have our lunch at our desks while we work through the pile of documents. It’s a busy life but we enjoy the rhythm of Royapettah. There is always something happening outside our window. We just keep our heads down and get the day's tasks finished one by one. The street lights come on around six and that is usually when we start packing up to go home.
