If you head over to Mannady, you can find Sunshine Impex on the first floor of No. 37 Jones Street. It’s a narrow street and can be quite a squeeze if there’s a delivery truck blocking the way. We’ve been in this building for years. The stairs are a bit steep, so we get our exercise every day going up and down. Our space is mostly just desks, computers, and samples of the stuff we trade. We handle both imports and exports, so there is always a lot of paperwork to track. Mannady is a busy place for trade, so we feel right at home here. It’s not a corporate environment at all. We wear casual clothes and drink a lot of tea while we work through the shipping schedules. Sometimes the internet is slow or the power goes out, but we just manage. We don’t have a marketing department or anyone to write fancy speeches. It’s just us doing the actual work. People come to see us at Jones Street when they need help moving goods across borders. We try to be helpful and straightforward about what can and can’t be done. Most of our day is spent talking to suppliers and checking on truck drivers. It’s a bit chaotic sometimes, but that’s the reality of small-scale trading in a place like this. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s a living and we are glad to have it.
