Melanje

We’ve been at No. 12 on the 1st Main Road in Karpaga Gardens for quite a while now. Most folks who live around here know the street well enough. Melanje is just our little spot where we keep things simple. We usually open up around ten in the morning, sweep the front, and get the kettle going. It’s not a big fancy showroom or anything like that. We just have some racks of clothes and a few shelves for the other bits and pieces. Some days it’s really quiet and I just sit by the door watching the cars go by. Other times, it gets a bit hectic when a few people come in at once looking for outfits. We don’t have a big staff, just me and sometimes my cousin helps out when he isn’t busy with his own work. The lighting at No. 12 is actually quite nice in the late afternoon, it makes the whole place feel a bit more comfortable. We’ve had the same neighbors for years and we all look out for each other. Dealing with clothes means a lot of folding and sorting through boxes, which can get a bit tedious, but it’s part of the day. We don't have a website or do much on the internet. People just walk in when they need something. It’s a practical way to run things and we like the routine of it all.
