Our office is right in the middle of it all. We have been working from this spot for some time now, and we have grown used to the sounds of the city. We do a lot of technology-related work, mostly focusing on software and helping businesses get their digital stuff sorted out. The building we are in is quite ordinary, which suits us just fine. We do not need a polished lobby to do our jobs well. Inside, it is just a bunch of people sitting at their laptops, trying to figure out solutions to various problems. We talk a lot among ourselves about how to fix things or improve what we are building. There is no hierarchy here where you have to wait for three bosses to approve an idea. We just get on with it. Sometimes the power goes out or the street gets flooded during the monsoon, but that is just part of living in Chennai. We keep our coffee mugs full and our heads down. It is a practical way to work, and we do not feel the need to pretend to be anything more than a hard-working local team. It can be a bit loud with the traffic outside, but we just turn up the fans and get back to the keyboards.
