Modern Rice Mill

You can find Modern Rice Mill at No 114 on Kaatuthangal, right on the Thirukazhikundram Road heading toward Mahabalipuram. It is a good spot because a lot of people pass by on their way to the coast. We have a big open area where the trucks park and we spend most of our time out there or near the main hulling unit. The air is always thick with the smell of rice husks. We aren't a big fancy operation, just a local mill that serves the nearby farmers and residents. The building has been there for years and we haven't changed much about it. We have a few ceiling fans that struggle against the summer heat and a small light over the main door. People stop in not just for milling but sometimes just to ask for directions since we are on the main road. We don't really have a sales team. We just rely on the fact that people know where we are and what we do. Dealing with the rice every day is hard on the hands and the lungs, but it is what we know. We just focus on getting the work done and making sure the customers are satisfied with their rice. It is a practical business and we keep it simple at No 114.
