Marakkanam Gnunux User Group

This group started because a few of us in Marakkanam were interested in Linux and free software. It isn't a company really, just a gathering of people who like playing with computers. We meet up at the Marakkanam Glug spot whenever we can find the time. Most of us have day jobs, so we talk about coding or fixing operating systems in our off hours. It's not always about the technical stuff either. Sometimes we just sit around and discuss how to make local computers run better without spending a lot of money on expensive licenses. We have some old laptops we use for testing things out. If someone has a problem with their setup, they bring it over and we try to figure it out together. It gets a bit loud when we all start debating which distribution is better, but it’s all in good fun. We don't have any fancy equipment or a big office. It’s a very local thing. Anyone from the area who wants to learn is welcome to stop by and sit with us. We try to share what we know. Sometimes the internet is slow, so we end up talking more than typing. It feels good to have a community here that cares about open source. We just keep doing our thing, one install at a time. It's simple and it works for us. We are just a bunch of users helping each other out in the local area. It’s quite a good hobby.
