Ultratech Cement is a big name, but here at the Adtiya Birla Group colony, it’s all about the people you see every day. Life revolves around the plant. When the shift whistle blows, the whole colony changes pace. It’s a very industrial setting, with the large structures of the Awarpur works looming nearby. Our office in B-3 is pretty basic. We’ve got some chairs that have seen better days and plenty of files tucked away. It’s a place where we actually get our hands dirty. The weather in Chandapur can be really intense, especially in the summer months, so we try to do the heavy lifting early in the day. We don't talk much about corporate goals or anything like that. We just talk about the day's production and who is coming in for the next shift. It’s a practical life. The colony is quiet on the weekends when most people are resting. We’ve got a small community here and we all pretty much do the same kind of work. It’s not flashy, but it’s our life. We take care of the equipment and make sure the cement gets where it needs to go. We are just regular people making things happen in the middle of Maharashtra.
