We are right on the main road in Sector 22, so the noise from the cars is something we hear all day long. It’s a small shop, mostly filled with glass cases that hold mobile phones and rows of charging cables hanging on the walls. Most of our day is spent looking at small screens or trying to figure out why a battery isn't holding a charge anymore. People come in constantly asking for screen protectors or a quick recharge for their data plans. It gets really tight in here when more than three people walk in at once. We have a small stool behind the counter that everyone shares. The floor is a bit worn down from all the footsteps over the years. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know how to swap out a SIM card or fix a broken speaker. The heat from the computers and all the electronics plugged in makes the air a bit stuffy, even with the small wall fan spinning at full speed. Outside, the street is always busy with people going to the market. We see the same faces every morning when the shops around us start opening their shutters. Sometimes we just sit and watch the traffic while waiting for the next person to bring in a cracked screen. It is a simple way to make a living, right here on the busy main road.
