Alaika Hair Saloon

Alaika Hair Saloon is located at Booth Number 77 in the Janta Market area of Sector 27D. It’s a small booth, like many of the others in this market, which means space is a bit tight but we make it work. Sector 27 is a nice, older part of Chandigarh, and Janta Market has its own rhythm that we’ve become a part of. We open up the shutters every morning and sweep the front step before the first customers arrive. Usually, it’s the same people who live in the government houses nearby. The walls inside are painted a simple color, and we have some posters of different hairstyles that have been there for a long time. It feels like a very local spot where you can hear the neighboring shopkeepers talking about the news or the weather. We have our tools laid out on a small table near the mirror. Sometimes the drain in the back sink gets a little slow, so we have to keep an eye on that. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find anything too modern or high-end, just a solid chair and a sharp pair of scissors. Most of the day is spent just chatting with regulars while we work. It’s a quiet life in a busy market booth, and we are just here doing what we know how to do, day in and day out.
