At Excel Engineer, we are based out in Phase 2 of the MIDC area in Chakan, Khed. We are right on the Main Road, which is helpful for getting things in and out. This area is a huge industrial zone, so we are surrounded by all kinds of manufacturing plants and engineering firms. Our shop floor is usually busy with the sound of machines running and people working. We do engineering work, which involves a lot of precision but also a fair bit of grease and metal shavings. The air in Chakan always smells a bit like exhaust and machinery. We start our day early because the commute can be quite long for some of us coming from the city. The building is a standard industrial shed with high ceilings and big doors. We have our machines set up in rows, and there is always someone checking a blueprint or measuring a part. It’s not the kind of place where you’d wear a nice shirt. We mostly wear overalls or old clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. We eat our lunch together in a small break area off to the side. There isn't much to say about our mission or anything like that; we just take the drawings we get and make the parts as they should be made. It’s practical work for practical people. When the power fluctuates, we have to pause, but otherwise, we keep the machines going until the shift ends.
