Prakash Chicken & Fish Shop

If you walk down the main road near Malka Ganj Kabir Basti, you will find us at T 1700. The shop is called Prakash Chicken & Fish Shop. It is a busy little spot, especially on the weekends. We spend a lot of time cleaning the counters and getting the fresh fish ready. The ice melts fast in the summer so we are always bringing in new blocks from the back. It gets pretty loud with the sound of the knives on the wooden blocks. The main road is always packed with cycles and rickshaws, so the front of the shop is never really quiet. We get our supply in the dark hours of the morning before most people are even awake. Kabir Basti is a tight-knit place and we know most of the people who live nearby. They stop by for a bit of chicken or to see what fish came in today. The floor gets wet from all the washing, so you have to be careful where you step. We don't have any big signs or posters, just the name above the door. Most days are spent just cutting meat and wrapping it up in paper. It is hard work on the hands but we are used to it by now. After we close up, it takes an hour just to scrub everything down properly. Malka Ganj is an old part of the city and you can see it in the buildings. The shop has been here for years. We have an old fan that squeaks every time it turns, but it helps a little. We are just local people doing the work.
