Sanmati Sanitation

We’ve been at this spot in Vidya Market for quite a while now. Gali Hakim Baqa is always crowded, especially in the mornings when the trucks are trying to unload. Most days, I’m just here at the shop on the ground floor, checking the inventory of pipes and bathroom fittings that come in. It gets pretty dusty inside, and the space is a bit tight with all the stacks of sanitation gear everywhere. People walk in looking for specific parts for their home repairs, and sometimes we have what they need right away, and other times we have to look through the back. Hauz Qazi is a busy place to work, there is always noise from the street and people shouting to get through the narrow lanes. My hands are usually a bit dirty from moving boxes around. It’s not a fancy place, just a regular shop where we keep track of what’s in stock on paper mostly. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit there with a torch until it comes back. It's just how things go in this part of town. We see the same faces every week, mostly local plumbers or guys working on nearby sites. It is a lot of work keeping everything organized in such a small space, but we manage somehow. The shop doesn't have a big sign out front, just the name painted above the door. Most people find us because they live nearby. We close up when it gets dark.
