My workspace is located at A-124 in Gur Mandi, Delhi. If you have ever been to Gur Mandi, you know it is a place where things are always being moved around. It is a very commercial area, full of trucks and people carrying loads on their backs. My office is right in the middle of all that action. It is a bit loud and dusty, but that is just the nature of the location. The noise of the metal shutters opening and closing in the morning is like an alarm clock for the whole street. Gur Mandi is never really silent; even late at night you can hear the stray dogs or a truck backing up somewhere. It is a raw place, but it has a lot of character if you look for it. Inside, the walls are a bit stained and the floor is concrete, but it is a solid place to work. I have a heavy wooden desk that has been here for years and a couple of old chairs that are not very comfortable but they do the job. We do not have air conditioning, just a big pedestal fan that blows the papers around if I am not careful. I spend my days tracking orders and talking to suppliers who are always in a hurry. There is no room for fancy decorations here; every inch of space is used for storing something. It is a very practical, no-nonsense kind of place. Most people just know where we are and come by when they need something.
