Gorabazar S. M. Girls High School

If you walk down toward Satya Sai Enclave in Khandagiri, you will find Gorabazar S. M. Girls High School at Plot No 1/36. This is where the older girls come after they finish primary school. The building is a bit bigger than some of the others around here, but it still feels like a local spot. We have several classrooms and some old wooden benches that have been here for years. The floor gets a bit dusty because of the construction work nearby, but we sweep it out every morning before the first bell. It is a busy place during the week. Teachers are always carrying stacks of papers and the girls are usually talking about their upcoming exams or whatever is happening in the neighborhood. We don’t have a big fancy office. Our desks are piled with registers and old files. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just open the windows wider to let the breeze in. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, especially in the summer months. People in Bhubaneshwar know us as a regular school that has been part of the community for a while. We are not trying to be anything we are not. It is just a place for learning and getting through the day. We see the girls graduate and it makes the long hours feel worth it. It is a plain and practical place.
