Our office is tucked away in Jumerati Bazar, right in the Ghora Nikkas area. We are actually located below the Gujarat Lodge, so it’s a very busy part of the city at all hours. The streets are narrow and always full of people, rickshaws, and handcarts carrying goods. It’s a lot of noise and energy right outside our door every day. We do export work, so we spend a lot of time on the phone and dealing with shipping documents for our clients. Because we are in such an old market area, the building has a lot of character, but the rooms are a bit cramped and the ceilings are low. We have piles of folders and ledgers everywhere on the shelves. It’s not a modern glass office; it feels more like a traditional family business spot from years ago. We have people coming in and out all day long, and the tea seller from the corner is a frequent visitor to our desk. Most of our time is spent making sure the goods get to the port on time for the ships. It can be stressful when a shipment is delayed at customs, but that’s just the nature of the export business. We’ve been in Jumerati Bazar for years, and we know all the other shopkeepers around Ghora Nikkas quite well. It’s a tight-knit community despite all the chaos. We just focus on our work and try to stay organized.
