Ecoagrivan Farmer Producer Company

Over at Gram Post Perasamaniya, specifically ward number two, is where you will find us at Ram Kumar Yadav’s place. We started Ecoagrivan Farmer Producer Company because a few of us wanted to organize things a bit better. It’s not like we have a big corporate office with a sign out front. It’s more of a home where we gather to talk about the crops and how the soil is doing this year. Most days, there is a lot of tea being made and plenty of talk about the weather. We are just local people trying to make a living from the land. Sometimes the rains don't come when they should, and other times we have too much, so we just deal with it as it happens. Working here in the village means everybody knows everybody else. We handle our own logistics and try to figure out the best way to get our produce to where it needs to go. Ram Kumar’s house is a busy spot most mornings. We don’t have fancy uniforms or a big staff. It is just us and a couple of neighbors helping out when things get busy. The paperwork side of being a company is still a bit new to us, so we take it one day at a time. It’s honest work, and we are just trying to do right by the land we have.
