M D Senior Secondary School

This school is located out on the road, about 47 kilometers away from the main town area. We are right between Jawa and Badhwana village, so we get students coming in from both sides. It can be a bit of a trek for some people to get here, but there is plenty of space since we are not crowded into a city street. The wind blows across the open land a lot. Most days start with the buses pulling in and the older kids hanging around the entrance talking. We have the senior secondary classes here, so the students are a bit bigger and they have a lot of books to carry. The building has been here for a while and we are always fixing something, like a leaky tap or a door that won't shut right. It is a practical place. We have the classrooms lined up and a big area where everyone gathers. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just have to open the windows and keep going with the lesson. Lunchtime is when it gets really busy in the hallways. We see the same faces every day and we know which families belong to which village. It is a lot of work keeping a school running this far out, but we just take it one day at a time. The sun sets behind the fields and that is usually when the last of us are heading home to rest up.
