Our factory is located in Chitra, within the G.I.D.C. estate. If you drive through the main gates of the industrial area, you will see plenty of sheds that look exactly like ours. Maruti Plastotech Pvt.Ltd. is basically a big open space filled with plastic molding machines and the smell of melting pellets. It gets very dusty on the roads around here, especially when the wind picks up, so we are always wiping down the control panels. The machines run pretty much all day and the noise is just something you get used to after the first week. We have a small office partitioned off with some glass that is usually covered in fingerprints, but that is where the paperwork happens. We do not have any shiny signs or landscaping out front. There is just a gravel patch where the workers park their bikes and the trucks load up the finished goods. Lunch breaks are usually taken in the shade of the building because the sun hits the metal roof pretty hard in the afternoon. Most of us have been here since the machines were first bolted down to the floor. We do not do much besides making sure the plastic comes out in the right shapes and that the waste is kept to a minimum. It is steady work and it keeps everyone busy from Monday to Saturday without much fuss.
