We are located at Babu Lal’s place in Madhoni, right here in the Bharatpur district. Babulal Agriculture Producer Company Limited isn't some big city firm. It’s just a name we put on the paperwork so we could work together as a group. Bharatpur is famous for its birds, but for us, it’s all about the crops we can get out of the ground. We spend most of our time worrying about the water and the weather. Our group is small, just local farmers who have known each other since we were kids. We decided that instead of fighting for ourselves, we’d try to pool what we have. It’s a lot of work and we don't always get it right. There’s no big mission statement here, just a lot of hard work and some dusty boots. We meet up under the trees or in Babu Lal’s front room to talk about what we need for the next season. It’s a very local thing. We don't have any corporate training. We just know how to farm. If you come through Madhoni, you’ll see us out there. We’re just trying to keep our heads above water and make sure the farming stays profitable enough for the next generation to want to do it too. It’s not an easy life, but it’s the one we chose. We just keep going.
