West Bengal Tourism

Our office for West Bengal Tourism sits at 12/3/1 on Selimpur Road in Kolkata. It’s an old building with high ceilings and those big windows that let in the Kolkata humidity. Inside, you’ll find stacks of brochures for places like Darjeeling or the Sundarbans, though many of them have been sitting there for a while. We spend our days talking to people who want to see a bit more of the state, or sometimes just folks who are lost and need directions to the nearest tram stop. The fans on the ceiling never seem to stop spinning, and they make a clicking sound that we’ve all just learned to ignore. We have a few wooden desks and some cupboards filled with old records and travel guides. It’s not the most modern setup you’ve ever seen, but it’s got a lot of character. We usually have the radio playing softly in the background with some local news or music. Most of the staff has lived in Kolkata their whole lives, so we know the streets pretty well. We aren't here to sell you a dream; we just give you the information we have and help you figure out the logistics of your trip. It’s a slow-paced environment where we take the time to talk to whoever walks through the door, usually over a cup of tea.
