Vivek Tailors

If you look for Vivek Tailors, you will find us at 43-B on 7th A Main in Shivanagar. We are situated West of Chord Road, right on the way to the old Pushpanjali Theater. The shop is small and usually smells like steam from the iron and little bits of thread are always stuck to the floor. I have been sitting at this machine for many years now, and the sound of the needle is just something I don't even notice anymore. People bring in all sorts of clothes, some that need a whole new look and others that just need a button sewn back on. It is a local shop, so we know most of the families around Shivanagar. They drop off their stuff on the way to the market and pick it up a few days later. We have racks of finished shirts and suits hanging from the ceiling because we ran out of shelf space long ago. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit, but that’s just how it goes here. It’s a simple trade. We take measurements, we cut the fabric, and we sew. There is no mystery to it, just a lot of sitting and focusing on the stitches. We don't spend money on big ads or anything like that; people just know we are here by the theater road and they come in when they need something. It is just a small life in a small shop doing work that needs doing.
