Ur Engineering

Our place, Ur Engineering, is down at 25/5 Bajanai Koil Street in Ganapathypuram, over in the Tambaram area. It is more of a workshop than a proper office. We have the usual tools you’d expect for engineering work—drills, grinders, and a lot of scrap metal sitting in the corner. The street is mostly residential, so we try not to make too much noise too early in the morning. It is a small team here. Most of us have grease on our hands by ten in the morning. We take on various mechanical jobs that people bring in. Sometimes it’s a broken part from a machine or something someone needs built from scratch. It’s dusty work and the floor is never really clean no matter how much we sweep it. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing person. Most of our work comes from people nearby who know we can fix things. We just open the shutters, get the lights on, and start on whatever is on the bench that day. It isn't glamorous, but it keeps us busy. When the rain comes down hard, the roof makes a lot of noise, but we just keep working through it. It’s a decent living and we like being part of the neighborhood. We usually have a bit of a chat with whoever drops by to leave a job.
