Transcriptionist

I work as a transcriptionist and I do everything through my email address. I don't have a proper office or a shop where people can come visit. It’s just me at my desk with my computer and a good pair of headphones. I spend a lot of my time listening to audio files and typing them out into documents. It can be quite a long process depending on how clear the recording is. I’ve been doing this for a long time now. Some days I have hours of audio to get through and my fingers start to feel a bit stiff by the afternoon. It’s a quiet way to make a living and I mostly stay in my own world while I work. I don't have any colleagues to talk to during the day, just the voices in the recordings. Sometimes they have thick accents or there is a lot of background noise, which makes the job a lot harder. I just take my time and try to get every word right. The email is my only way of getting new work and sending it back to people. It’s a very simple setup without any of the usual office stress. I don't have to worry about a dress code or a commute. I just wake up, check my inbox, and start typing. It’s a steady routine that I’ve grown to like over the years. I just keep my head down and focus on the audio until the job is done.
