The Retreat

You can find us at No 30, on the 14th Cross over in Lingarajpuram. We are situated on Narayanappa Street, which is just off Oil Mill Road. The Retreat is basically a small place where we host people who are passing through Bangalore. It’s not a massive hotel with hundreds of rooms, which is why we like it. The atmosphere is more like a house than a business sometimes. We spend our mornings checking people out and our afternoons getting rooms ready for whoever is arriving next. Sometimes the laundry takes longer than it should or we have a bit of a plumbing scare, but we deal with it as it happens. Our staff is small, mostly people who live nearby and walk to work. We don’t have a big marketing department or anyone writing fancy brochures. We just make sure the beds are made and the rooms are tidy. Lingarajpuram is a busy area, but our little spot on the 14th Cross stays relatively quiet. People find us because they want something simple and reasonably priced. We’ve been here at address 84 for a good stretch of time. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to provide a decent place for someone to sleep for a night or two. It’s a lot of work keeping up with the maintenance of an older building, but we enjoy the routine and the different people we get to meet.
