The Paul

The Paul is over in Paramakudi, specifically at Hariram, 12/114 A on Vanni Mara St. We’re down in Tamil Nadu, and things move a little slower here than they do in the big cities like Chennai. It’s a simple place on a quiet street where you can see the same people walking by every morning. We don't have any big signs or bright lights to show where we are. It’s just the building and us doing what we do. I’ve lived around here most of my life, so I know just about everyone on Vanni Mara St. Running this place takes up most of my time, from cleaning up in the morning to locking the gates at night. We don't use any fancy marketing talk or try to sound bigger than we are. It’s just a small local spot where we try to be helpful to anyone who comes through the door. Sometimes the weather gets really hot and we just sit under the fan and wait for the evening breeze. We don't have a lot of staff, just a few of us who look after the daily tasks. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s our life. We keep things tidy and make sure everything is where it should be. If you’re ever in Paramakudi and find yourself on our street, you’ll see us there just going about our day as usual. It is a practical life and we are happy enough with the way things are.
