The Leela Palace

I've been working here at The Leela Palace in Bangalore for a while now. When people think of this place, they usually think of the big building and the gardens, but for us, it’s just our daily workplace. It’s located right in the middle of the city. Bangalore has changed a lot over the years, but this spot stays pretty much the same. We spend our days walking the halls and making sure everything is where it should be. It’s a huge place, so it takes a lot of people to keep it going. You see all sorts of folks coming through the doors. We don't really have a mission or anything like that; we just want to make sure the rooms are ready and the lobby looks decent. The gardens are probably the best part, especially when the Bangalore weather is actually nice and not too rainy. It gets busy during the wedding season, and then things can get a bit chaotic, but we just take it one day at a time. The staff here are mostly local people who have been around for years. We know the corners of this building better than anyone else does. It’s a lot of standing on your feet and moving around from floor to floor. It’s not always as glamorous as it looks from the outside, but it’s an honest job. We just try to keep the place running smoothly for whoever happens to be staying with us in Bangalore.
