We’re located at number 76 on the 7th Cross in Austin Town. The name is a bit of a mouthful, Smlxl Architecture & Urban Design, but we mostly just think of ourselves as the local architects in the neighborhood. We do a lot of different things, from small room layouts to looking at how whole blocks in the city fit together. Austin Town is a tight-knit place, and we like being right in the middle of it. The office is usually full of maps and big prints of the city layout. We spend a lot of time talking about how people move through spaces and what makes a street feel right. It’s not always about making things look pretty; a lot of the time, it’s about making sure things are functional and don’t get in the way. We’re a small team, so we end up doing a bit of everything ourselves. You might see us out on the street taking photos or measuring things. We don't have a fancy lobby or anything like that. It’s just a workspace where we try to figure out the best way to use the land we have. It’s interesting work, and every day is a bit different depending on what kind of project comes through the door. Sometimes we stay late to finish up a drawing, but that's just part of the job when you're trying to get things right.
