Shukriya Travels is located in a small place called Valanchery, specifically in the Kavumpuram area. My house, Chakkchattil, is where a lot of the work happens since it’s a local business. We are in Thiozhuvanur, which is a quiet part of the Calicut region in Kerala. It’s very green around here, especially when the monsoon starts, and the rain hits the roof so loud you can’t hear the person on the phone. I spend my days helping people from the village and nearby towns figure out their bus or train tickets. It’s not a big office with shiny signs; it’s just me and a couple of others with a computer and a lot of notebooks. People stop by even when they don’t need a ticket, just to say hello or share some news. I’ve lived here all my life, so I know almost everyone who walks through the door. Sometimes the printer jams right when I need to print a ticket, which is frustrating, but we manage. We aren’t a giant travel agency, just a local one named Shukriya, trying to make sure the folks around here get to where they need to go without too much trouble. It’s a slow pace of life compared to the big cities, but we stay busy enough with the local travel needs and the paperwork that comes with it.
