Shaa Hirachand Phoolchand & Company has been running out of the Eshwar Complex in Chickpet for quite some time. We are on the first floor, at 25/7. If you know Chickpet, you know how narrow the lanes are and how packed it gets with people and goods. It’s a historic area for trade, and we are right in the middle of that history. The building is a bit older, and the stairs can be steep when you’re carrying things up to the first floor. We don't mind. It’s the character of the place. Our daily routine involves a lot of talking to suppliers and customers who come through the market. There is a lot of noise from the streets below—people shouting, bells ringing, the usual market sounds. We do our best to stay organized in the middle of all that chaos. We aren't a corporate office with glass walls. We have wooden desks and old ledgers along with our computers. It’s a mix of the old ways and the new ways. We’ve stayed in Chickpet because this is where the action is. Everyone knows everyone else here. It’s all about the people who come to see us and keeping those connections going. We just show up every day and do our part. It’s a family-style environment even for those of us who aren't related. We like the pace of the market.
