Secretary Agricultural Growers Marketing

Being down here at Binnypet APMC Yard 15 means the day starts way before the sun is up. This is the office for Secretary Agricultural Growers Marketing. It is a hectic place. There are tractors, trucks, and people moving bags of produce all over the place. Our office is right in the middle of it. We deal with the growers and the sellers. It is mostly paperwork and making sure the records are straight. The floor is usually covered in a bit of dirt from the yard, no matter how much we sweep. It is just the nature of the business. We have a couple of old fans that struggle in the heat, but they do the job. My desk is piled high with ledgers. We do not use many fancy computers here; a lot of things are still written down by hand because it is faster when you are out on the floor. People come in and out all day asking about prices or where their shipment is. It gets loud, especially when the auctions are going on nearby. We do not have a lunchroom, so we usually just eat at the desks or grab something from the stalls outside. It is hard work and the hours are long, but this is how the market moves. We have been part of this yard for a long time and know most of the regulars by their first names. It is not pretty, but we get the job done.
