Saraswathi Krishi Vigyan Kendra

Down in Banaswadi, in the Versova Layout on Kaggadaspura Main Road, is where you’ll find us at number 18. Saraswathi Krishi Vigyan Kendra is a bit of a mouthful, but we just call it the shop. We deal with all things related to plants and farming. It’s a bit different from the other shops around here because we have a lot of green stuff and bags of soil lying around. People come in from the main road looking for advice on their gardens or needing supplies for their small plots. We spend a lot of time outside or in the open area where the sun hits. It’s a peaceful kind of work, though it can be heavy when you’re moving bags of fertilizer or large pots. We don't have a big corporate strategy; we just know what grows well in this dirt and what doesn’t. Sometimes we have local farmers stop by, and other times it’s just someone living in a nearby apartment who wants a flower for their balcony. We talk to everyone the same way. The dust from the main road can be a bit much, but we get used to it. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day. We’ve been here for a while and have seen the buildings go up all around us. We just keep watering the plants and helping whoever walks through the gate.
