Running a contracting business takes a lot out of you, especially when you’re based in a busy area like Hanumanth Nagar. Our office is on the 1st floor of house number 2, right near the Dharmasthala Choultry. You can hear the bells and the crowds from the choultry during wedding season. It’s a small space, mostly filled with rolls of blueprints and stacks of files that need signing. As a contractor, I spend half my time here and the other half out at sites getting my boots muddy. Sanath Kumar O R Engineer Contractor isn't some big firm with a receptionist and polished floors. It’s mostly just me and a couple of assistants handling the day-to-day stuff. We’ve been in this part of town for a good while now. People stop by to talk about their house plans or to complain about the price of cement these days. The stairs up to the first floor are a bit steep, but it keeps the noise of the street away while I'm trying to calculate costs. Sometimes I sit by the window and watch the devotees going toward the choultry. It’s a landmark everyone knows, so we never have to give complicated directions to anyone. We deal with all sorts of local projects, from small renovations to bigger structures. It’s steady work, and being close to home helps quite a lot. We don't have a fancy website. Most people just walk in because they saw the sign while passing.
