Safeway Fancy & Gift Shop

Safeway Fancy & Gift Shop is at 394, right across from the Amruth Theatre in Lingarajapuram. Being opposite the theatre is helpful because everyone knows the landmark, even if they aren't from this exact street. Our shop is full of the usual fancy items like ribbons, bindis, and toys for children. We also keep a variety of gift wraps and boxes for when people are going to a function nearby. The shop isn't very wide, so we have shelves going all the way up to the ceiling. We have a rolling ladder we use when someone wants something from the top. It stays pretty busy here, especially in the evenings when people are out for a walk or heading to a movie at the theatre. The noise from the main road is always there in the background while we work. We spend a lot of time talking to folks about what they need for their home or for a gift. It’s a very informal place. We might be sitting on a stool eating our lunch when you walk in, but we’ll get up and help you right away. We don’t use a computer for our bills; we just write them out by hand in a small book with a carbon sheet. It’s been that way since we started. Lingarajapuram is a lively area and we feel like a part of the daily rhythm here. We just try to keep the shelves stocked with whatever people are asking for lately.
