S P Travel Agency is tucked away on 3rd Cross, 8th Main in the Marathahalli area. Our office is at number 356. It is a small place but we manage to stay quite busy with all the folks in this part of town wanting to get away for the weekend or book tickets back to their hometowns. We have a couple of desks with computers that are almost always on. Most of our day is spent looking up bus timings or checking for available train seats. It can be a bit stressful when the systems are slow and the customers are waiting right in front of us. We have maps pinned to the walls and stacks of old brochures that don’t get much look anymore because everyone uses their phones now. Still, people like coming in to talk to a real person before they pay for a long trip. The neighborhood is very crowded, so there’s a lot of noise from the street coming through the windows. We drink a lot of tea while we work and talk to the drivers who come by to drop off tickets. It is a simple business where we just try to get the details right so nobody ends up stranded. Sometimes we have to stay late to sort out a booking error, but that’s just how it is. It’s a tight-knit spot and we know most of the regulars here.
