R R Gift Corner

The shop is tucked inside Subhas Complex, right across from the Union Bank. If you know Avenue Road, you know how busy it gets. We are at number 72. Most mornings start with dusting off the shelves because the street outside kicks up a lot of dirt. We have all sorts of things piled up—toys, little statues, picture frames, and cards for every occasion. It can get a bit cramped when three or four people are inside at once. My cousin and I usually handle the packing. We keep a big roll of shiny paper and tape under the counter for people who need things wrapped up quick. Sometimes people spend an hour just looking at different clocks or vases before they pick one. We don't mind. It’s nice to see what folks choose. The lighting in the back corner is a bit dim, we keep meaning to fix it but haven't got around to it yet. Lunch is usually eaten in a hurry behind the counter while someone asks for the price of a pen set. On festival days, the whole place feels like it's bursting with boxes. We try to keep things organized, but it’s a constant battle with all the small items we carry. It's just a regular shop where we try to make sure we have enough variety for whoever walks in from the street. It’s a lot of work but we like the pace.
