Our workshop at Kamakshi Palya 65/2 is always noisy. Between the lathes running and the sound of metal being cut, you have to raise your voice to be heard. We’ve been at this address for quite a few years now. The floor is concrete and it’s covered in tiny metal shavings that seem to get everywhere, even in your shoes. We handle a lot of small parts and custom jobs that people bring in. It is greasy work. My hands are rarely clean until the end of the shift. We have a big sliding door that stays open to let the fumes out and the fresh air in. Sometimes it gets really hot in the afternoons, especially when all the machines are running at the same time. We have a small corner with a table where we eat our lunch and look at the blueprints. It’s not a polished place. There are oil stains on the walls and the ceiling is a bit dark from years of work. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. People just know us through word of mouth around Kamakshi Palya. If something needs fixing or a part needs to be made, we just get on with it. It’s a straightforward engineering shop. We work hard, we finish the jobs, and then we head home. That’s the whole story of R K Engineering. We’re just local people doing manual work in our own space.
