It’s an industrial kind of setup, so don’t expect a shiny lobby or anyone in a suit. The main floor is where everything happens. We’ve got lathes, milling machines, and benches covered in various metal parts we’re working on. There’s always a bit of a smell of grease and cutting fluid, which I guess you get used to after a week or two. My office is just a corner walled off with some plywood and glass so I can see what’s going on out there. The 5th Main Road can get a bit cramped when the delivery trucks come in with the raw steel, and sometimes there's a bit of shouting to get everyone moved out of the way. We’re a small team, mostly just a handful of us who know how the machines behave. Some of the equipment is older than the younger guys working here, but it still runs fine if you treat it right. We spend our days looking at blueprints and trying to get the tolerances just right. It’s not glamorous work, but it’s what we do. When the rain hits the metal roof, it gets so loud we can’t even hear the phones ringing. We just keep working until the job is done and the crates are packed up for shipping to whoever needs the parts.
