Punjab Markfed

The office is located at 17/2, Palace Road, right in the High Grounds area. It’s an old part of town with big trees that drop leaves all over the parked cars. Punjab Markfed has been here for a long time, and you can tell by the way the floorboards creak when you walk down the hallway. It’s a high-ceilinged building that stays surprisingly cool in the morning, though by the afternoon we’re all reaching for the fans. We have stacks of files everywhere—on the desks, on the floor, and even on top of the old filing cabinets. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes. Most of the staff has been here for decades, so there’s a lot of tea drinking and talking about how things used to be. The phone rings constantly, usually someone asking about a shipment or a price, and there’s always a bit of a scramble to find the right piece of paper. The windows are tall and let in a lot of light, but they’re hard to open when we want a breeze. We don’t have any modern art on the walls, just a few old maps and some calendars. It’s a steady kind of place where things move at their own pace. We show up, do the paperwork, handle the distribution, and go home when the sun sets behind the trees.
