Our shop is at No. 165 Commercial Street, right in the thick of the shopping district. If you know this area, you know how crowded it gets, especially on the weekends. We open up the shutters every morning and start by tidying up the racks that got messed up the night before. There’s a lot of folding and hanging to do. The building is one of those older ones on the street, so it has some quirks, like a floor that creaks in certain spots. We don’t have a lot of space, so every inch of the wall is used for display. It gets quite warm inside when the shop is full of customers, so the ceiling fans are always going full speed. Our staff members are good at remembering where every single item is kept, even when the stock changes. We spend a lot of time talking to people who are looking for something specific for a wedding or a party. It’s a lot of standing on your feet all day, which can be tiring. We usually take turns going for a quick tea break in the back alley. Commercial Street is always changing, with new shops opening up, but we’ve been at 165 for a long time now. We just try to keep the shelves stocked and the customers happy without making a big deal out of it. It’s just how we do things every day from morning until late night.
