You can find Prakash Fancy Store at number 58 in the Raja Market Complex on Avenue Road. If you know anything about Avenue Road, you know it’s one of the busiest places you can find. The market complex is a bit of a maze, and our store is tucked away in there with all the others. We sell fancy goods, which means things like bangles, ribbons, hair clips, and all those small accessories. The shop is quite small, so we have to use every inch of wall space for hanging things up. It’s very colorful but also very crowded. Most of the time, we are standing because there isn't really enough room for chairs behind the counter. The air is always thick with the smell of incense from the nearby shops and the general buzz of the market. We've been in Raja Market for a long time, and we've seen many shops come and go. Our regular customers know exactly which corner we are in, even though it’s easy for a stranger to get lost. We don't have a computer or any fancy billing system; we just write everything down in a big ledger book at the end of the day. The lighting is a bit dim towards the back of the shop, but we have some extra bulbs to help customers see the colors of the threads and beads. It's a busy, cramped, and noisy way to spend a day.
