Down here in Udupi, life moves a bit differently than it does in the big cities. Paradise Isle Beach Resort is located near Malpe, specifically in the Gundmi village area. My father, Nagesh G Maiya, started things off, and we’ve been keeping it going in Sasthan for a long time. It’s a quiet spot, and the air always smells like the sea. The address is basically our family home and the business mixed together. We get a lot of people coming through to see the beach, and we just try to make them feel at home. It’s not a polished resort with gold handles on the doors. It’s more of a local place where the floors might have a bit of sand on them because the beach is right there. We spend our mornings checking the supplies and making sure the rooms are ready for whoever shows up. The weather can be a bit rough during the monsoon, so we spend a lot of time fixing things up after the rain. It’s a lot of work running a place in a village like Gundmi, but it’s what our family does. We don’t have a big marketing team; most people just hear about us from their friends or family. It’s just a simple life by the coast, looking after the guests and making sure the kitchen is stocked.
